The challenge

Toast is the all-in-one platform built for the entire restaurant community. They provide a single platform of SaaS products and financial technology solutions that give restaurants everything they need to run their business, help increase revenue, streamline operations, and deliver amazing guest experiences.  

Point of sale was just the beginning for Toast. Over the years they have built a suite of products to enhance their highly scalable, end-to-end, cloud-based platform. However, they needed more enhanced digital channels to help share this growth and evolution story with their potential candidates. 

With more than 3,500 employees globally, its team of ‘Toasters” is rapidly growing.

To achieve its goal of being the platform of choice for restaurants all over the world, Toast needs to hire the best minds in the industry. 

But when it came to talent attraction, the TA team faced a multi-tiered challenge. 

First, Toast knew they wanted to provide a more engaging and seamless candidate experience by optimizing navigation, improving their search functionality, and providing information candidates found useful and insightful – all while showcasing who they were, how they’ve evolved, and what the future of Toast has to offer potential talent. 

Secondly, the team needed a solution that would seamlessly plug into and integrate with their existing ATS, Greenhouse. Having a seamless 2-way flow of candidate information would be critical for them to be able to gain more visibility into the candidate journey and allow them to drive change through data-driven insights more than ever before. 

Lastly, the hiring team wanted a solution that would give them greater control over editing their career site on their own timeline. This would help the recruitment function to scale, pivot, and move as quickly as the business did. 

They needed a recruitment marketing solution that would tick these boxes, solve these challenges, and give them a competitive edge when it comes to attracting talent.

 

The focus

To deliver exceptional candidate experiences and create greater employer brand transparency, Toast’s TA team needed to focus on optimizing every touchpoint in the candidate journey —and their career site was a critical one.

To do this, Noelle Holdsworth, Senior Manager of Employer Brand, and her TA team chose Clinch as their recruitment marketing solution

Not only does Clinch integrate with their ATS, but it also enables them to understand: 

  • how candidates learn about the company
  • what content is resonating with candidates 
  • the factors that influence them to apply
  • location, job, and department-specific data 

“As an employer branding practitioner, you learn great practices from experience,” said Holdsworth. “At the same time, there are candidate markets that are unpredictable and ever-changing! So having these [Clinch] datasets is essential. It allows us to apply fresh perspectives, new tools, and resources to build and iterate on our strategy.”

The solution

The Toast team uses Clinch to regularly update their career site with photos, videos, storytelling, and fresh content to communicate the company’s employer brand.

“We’re sharing with jobseekers who we are, what we offer, and what kind of impact they can have. We will be able to create more transparent conversations with potential candidates about the full picture of life at Toast.”

Holdsworth’s team is able to edit pages, create new landing pages and blogs, and keep everything in the Toast branding —all without having to write a line of code or rely on others regularly. This has put ownership of their career site back in their hands.

“We now have the ability to edit, scale and adapt pages [ourselves]. For candidates, we want to show up in a way that will not only help them decide whether or not they see Toast as their next career step and create an easy, seamless process for them to apply, but also to leave an impression so that they would also advocate for careers at Toast when it came to their personal networks looking for new opportunities,” says Holdsworth.  

Gaining better data-driven insights through Clinch has been one of the biggest advantages for the team. For example, they use Clinch’s heat map analytics to test what content people are engaging with, and identify what content isn’t resonating.

This allows them to drive decision making, leverage popular content, understand where to spend their time, and optimize job descriptions. They’re able to see what content and which pages are converting visitors into candidates, and it highlights where prospects may be dropping off in the journey. All this leads to a truly personalized and engaging jobseeker experience.
